Terms of Use

These terms cover how the Gold Standard Living site works, what you can do here, and where our responsibility ends. They apply to every visitor, whether you are reading a restoration guide or sending a question through the contact form.

What this site is

Gold Standard Living is an independent interiors publication and a small workshop collective based in Johannesburg. The site holds editorial material on furniture restoration, sanding and oiling old Oregon pine, fabric selection for Highveld light, small-space layouts, second-hand sourcing and upholstery basics. It is a reading and reference resource, not a shop or a service desk.

What you can do here

You are welcome to read, browse and follow the guides at your own pace. The contact form is the only way to send us a message, and the thanks page that follows confirms that the form was received by our handler. There are no accounts, no payments, no bookings, no uploads and no live comments on this site.

Our material

The written guides, photographs of timber and textiles, and hand-drawn floor plan sketches on this site belong to the project unless we note otherwise. Please do not copy or republish them as your own. If you want to reference a method or a sketch, link back to the page instead of lifting the content.

Your responsibility

Restoration work involves tools, finishes and old timber, and you carry out any project at your own risk. Use the guides as a starting point, check your own piece before you sand or strip it, and follow the safety instructions on any product you use. We describe methods we find useful, but we cannot see your table, your room or your tools.

Limits of our responsibility

We keep the editorial material accurate to the best of our knowledge, but we do not promise that every method suits every piece of furniture or every room. We are not responsible for damage, loss or cost that follows from applying something you read here. Links to other sites are given for context only, and we do not control what those sites publish.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the site changes, for example if we add a new editorial section or adjust how the contact form works. The current version always sits on this page, and continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised wording.

Questions about these terms

For anything relating to these terms, the material on the site or how we handle a message you send, write to us directly.
